Biography
Short bio. H.L. Delaney writes mythic and historical fiction of the American West. A member of the Klamath Confederated Tribes, he lives in the shadow of Crater Lake and is the founder of Basalt Sea Press, a Native-owned literary house. His debut novel, Captain Jack & The Original Renegades, reached Amazon's Top 10 in Native American Literature.
Long bio. H.L. Delaney writes mythic and historical fiction rooted in the volcanic country of the Klamath Basin, weaving Indigenous memory, regional history, and the supernatural into literary narratives about inheritance, resistance, and survival. His series Native Myths of the American West includes The Spirals of Kemush, a complete cycle of the twelve Modoc origin myths with a scholarly companion guide, and the forthcoming twelve-book Spiral Cycle. His debut novel, Captain Jack & The Original Renegades, retells the Modoc War from inside Indigenous memory and reached Amazon's Top 10 in Native American Literature. He is a recipient of the Princemere and Calvino prizes, and the founder of Basalt Sea Press, a Native-owned press devoted to Native voices, mythology, and stories of resistance.
